Our team recommends
The hotel sits at the northern end of the Bund, a few streets back from the riverfront. The lobby is up on the fourth floor, open and full of playful art and furniture, and a catwalk over the ground-floor lobby leads to the room lifts.
We stayed in the Fantastic Suite, red from wall to wall, with seating for about ten along the floor-to-ceiling windows. From those windows the Bund and the Oriental Pearl Tower are right across the river. A deep tub is the centrepiece of the bathroom, and a bowl of White Rabbit sweets was waiting for us.
The gym is large, with separate spaces for weights and cardio and its own room for spin classes. Next to it, the indoor pool has a heated whirlpool, and the outdoor pool and its terrace look straight at the Bund.
LIQUID, a dim bar in the style of 1920s Shanghai inside YEN on the sixth floor, looks out at the Oriental Pearl Tower. WOOBAR in the lobby is the lively one in the evening. We were leaving before breakfast opened, so the hotel sent a breakfast box to the room.

Most of our guests stay in a Wonderful Room. For the view, they take a Marvelous Room facing the river or a Cool Guest Room facing the Bund.

For more space, request the Fantastic Suite. Ours had a separate bedroom, a living room for a crowd and the Bund outside every window.
Without a suite, choose a Cool Corner Room on the Bund, a corner room a little larger than the others, facing the Bund. The suite to know here is the Cloud on the Bund Suite, with high ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows on the Bund and a whirlpool. For a family or a celebration, the WOW Suite adds a separate dining room and sleeps five.
