The hotel sits in Tenjin, with the green of the Daimyo Garden City park right outside, an easy place for a break or a picnic with children. Ohori Park, Kushida Shrine and Canal City Hakata are a 15 to 20 minute walk away.
Staff greeted us by name at every step of our arrival, from the street entrance up to the lobby on the 18th floor. With Club access, we checked in on the 24th floor over cold drinks and cooling towels while afternoon tea was underway.
We stayed three nights as a family of five, and the hotel set up our two rooms as interconnecting rooms. Pale wood, stone and woven patterns drawn from Hakata’s textile tradition give the rooms a calm feel, and the bathroom has a double vanity, with the tub and shower behind one glass enclosure.
Housekeeping left handwritten notes for the children more than once, and fruit jellies at turndown. When one of the children left a drawing for the spa hostess, a handwritten thank-you note was hanging on our door that evening.
Breakfast at Viridis is a Japanese and Western buffet with eggs made to order. In the Club Lounge, food comes plated in small ceramic dishes, and the team made a separate afternoon tea plate to suit our children’s allergies.
On the 24th floor, the infinity pool and hot tub look over Hakata Bay, and The Bay Bar has an open-air terrace with the same view.
