The hotel stands at the edge of The Rocks, on George Street. Circular Quay, its ferries and the harbour are about ten minutes away on foot, and from the water’s edge you look across to the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge.
We stayed in a Deluxe City Room, cosy and elegant in white panelling and oak, with a glimpse of the harbour from its two windows. A welcome note and a bottle of Pinot Noir were waiting for us by the window seat.
The Executive Club Lounge on the 32nd floor was a highlight. The evening spread ran from dim sum to chilled prawns and charcuterie, with premium spirits, and the staff kept our glasses full all evening.
Breakfast is at Mode Kitchen & Bar on the ground floor, a room of small, cosy corners that cooks modern Australian food at lunch and dinner. For a drink, Grain Bar is all timber and warm copper.
