The hotel sits on a quieter stretch of Orchard Boulevard. Orchard Road and the Orchard MRT station are a few minutes away on foot, and the Singapore Botanic Gardens an easy stroll.
We stayed in a Boulevard Room on the 18th floor, calm in beige, grey and ivory, with a wall of Peranakan-patterned tiles. Coconut drinks, sweets and a note were waiting, and the marble bathroom had two sinks, a tub and a walk-in shower.
The Executive Club on the third floor was a delight, with an evening spread of canapés generous enough to make a meal. When we mentioned feeling unwell, the lounge staff brought warm water with lemon and honey.
The dining is a strength. One-Ninety serves breakfast under high ceilings and greenery, Jiang-Nan Chun is the Cantonese restaurant, Nobu is on the third floor, and One-Ninety Bar has a garden terrace for an evening drink.
The gym is one of the most beautiful we have seen in a hotel, set in a greenhouse full of daylight. The lap pool on the third floor is for quiet swims, and families have their own pool on the roof.
