Al Bateen is one of the city’s quieter, older quarters, and the Corniche runs along the coast just to the north. Emirates Palace and the Marina Mall are about five minutes away by car, the city centre about ten and the airport about 30.
The lobby is a five-storey atrium of marble and soft peach tones, with a moving sculpture hanging overhead. Our suite was on the third floor, where a handwritten note and a slice of banana bread were waiting.
The suite was calm and pale, in cream and oak, with a freestanding round bathtub and a long balcony over the marina and the pool. Even the Deluxe Room has a balcony on the water.
Breakfast is at Market at EDITION, just off the lobby, and runs well into the afternoon. In the evening, Alba Terrace sets dinner beside a reflection pool, Oak Room is the steakhouse and Library Bar is a quiet place for a drink before dinner.
The ground-floor pool has a deck of loungers and cabanas beside Alba Terrace, and the EDITION SPA has seven treatment rooms.
