The hotel sits beside Tokyo Station, so the bullet trains to the rest of Japan leave from next door. The Imperial Palace and its gardens are a short walk west.
Tokyo Station is a maze, and the hotel solved it for us. Ahead of our arrival they suggested a train from Narita, and someone from the hotel met us on the platform and walked us through the crowds to the door.
We stayed in a Deluxe Room on the 33rd floor, a calm blend of Japanese and modern design in dark wood, with the skyline outside. Pyjamas lay on the bed, and the marble wet room had a deep tub, a rain shower and blinds that open onto the view.
Breakfast is in The Lobby Lounge on the 28th floor, under a chandelier of glass ginkgo leaves. We ordered from the menu: lobster eggs royale with caviar one morning, and a full Japanese breakfast the next.
The Health Club’s heated pool looks toward the Imperial Palace, and on a clear day you may see Mount Fuji. Chi, The Spa has private treatment suites with their own baths and fireplaces.
Staff handed us from one person to the next without a seam. After a morning run, someone was waiting at the door with a towel and water, the lift already called.
