The hotel sits in a quiet corner of the West End, a few minutes’ walk from Dupont Circle and George Washington University, among homes and shops that are pleasant to explore on foot. Foggy Bottom–GWU metro station is a few blocks south, and the National Mall is a short ride away.
Our first night was in a Park Executive Suite, with a dining table at its centre and the living room and bedroom on either side. The living room is generous, with a four-seat sofa, two armchairs and its own powder room, and the bedroom has far more space around the king bed than most. Chocolate truffles were waiting on the table.
The bathroom joins the shower and bathtub in one large stone wet room, with a walk-in closet across from it.
The next night we moved to a Park Junior Suite, a cozier space with living, working and dining in one room. Its curved desk is made for work, and the television turns so you can watch from bed. We came to prefer its coziness to the larger suite.
Breakfast at Blue Duck Tavern, the hotel’s restaurant, was made to a very high standard, from smoked salmon and avocado toast to steel-cut oats and a short rib hash full of flavour. We ended one evening with cocktails and charcuterie, and in the lounge the Tea Cellar pours rare teas from around the world.
