Auckland, New Zealand
One MICHELIN Key, 2026
Park Hyatt Auckland sits on the water’s edge on Halsey Street, looking across Wynyard Quarter’s Lighter Basin to the Waitematā Harbour.
Our team recommends
The hotel’s bronze mesh façade recalls a korowai, a Māori cloak, and a wooden waka by master carver Lyonel Grant greets you at the entrance. Inside, a seven-storey atrium rises over a lobby of tukutuku panels and light.
The harbourfront restaurants and bars are a short stroll, Queen Street a short walk, and a pedestrian bridge leads to Britomart. The airport is about 30 minutes by car.
Our Park Suite, a corner suite of about 765 square feet, felt like a fine yacht, in timber and soft fabrics, with sliding doors to divide the space. The marble bathroom, with a freestanding tub and a rain shower, was full of daylight, and the windows looked over the harbour.
Breakfast at Onemata draws on New Zealand’s farms and fisheries, and the hearth-roasted salmon was a highlight. Captain’s Bar has a two-sided bar and a terrace with a fireplace.
The 25-metre infinity pool looks over the Lighter Basin, and the spa beside it has a steam room, a sauna, a jacuzzi and a cold plunge. We left calling it the best luxury hotel in Auckland.
From our guests

Our team recommends
Our team found it right for a stay on the water with the city at the door, and as the first stop of a trip around New Zealand.
From our guests
Our guests write most about the harbour views, the spa and pool, and the food.
From our guests
Most of our guests stay in a king room with a balcony over the harbour.
Our team recommends
The King Room with Balcony has a living area and a balcony of about 100 square feet over the marina. For more space, the Park Suite sits on a corner of the building.
The Harbour Suite has the same corner layout on a high floor, facing the Viaduct Harbour and the skyline. Our pick of the suites is the Chairman Suite, one of three on the roof, whose balcony is three-quarters the size of the suite itself. For a family, either corner suite connects to a king room to make two bedrooms.
From our guests
This is an exceptional hotel with understated elegance. The hydrotherapy room and sauna area are excellent. The pool is outside, but it is fantastic even in the wintertime … Food at this hotel is fabulous.
What an amazing hotel … One of the best we ever had.
