The palace stands on the Pest side of the river, less than 300 metres from the Elisabeth Bridge, with Deák Ferenc tér a short walk or tram ride away. That puts both sides of the city within easy reach.
From a modest façade you step into a white, vaulted hallway where old mouldings meet contemporary design. We were welcomed with a drink at check-in, and someone from the front desk walked us up to show us the room and its features.
Our Loft Suite was on the fifth floor, added as a tribute to the artists who once lived at the top of the palace. It is one large open space with windows on two sides, one looking over the Danube and the Elisabeth Bridge, with books and art all around. The marble bathroom had Acqua di Parma products.
Turndown came every night with slippers set out and a small gift by the bed. We dined at Spago by Wolfgang Puck, and The Duchess, the bar on the roof, is a liquor library with views across the river to Buda.
