Nara, Japan
One MICHELIN Key, 2026
JW Marriott Hotel Nara was the first international luxury hotel in Nara’s city centre, a short ride from Nara Park and its temples.
Our team recommends
The hotel is in Nara’s business centre rather than beside Nara Park, but the tourist bus to the park stops just across the street. Shin-Omiya Station, on the Kintetsu line from Kyoto and Osaka, is about a ten-minute walk.
The lobby is bright and calm, all pale wood, with tall bookshelves behind the desks. Deer motifs run through the hotel, a nod to the deer that roam Nara Park.
Our Executive Suite was in soft natural tones, with a dining table, a long sofa and a Nespresso machine. The bedroom sits on the corner of the building with views across the city, and the marble bathroom has a double vanity and a deep soaking tub.
Breakfast at Silk Road Dining, under timber beams and tall windows, pairs eggs cooked to order with a full buffet, from Japanese rice bowls and congee to pancakes and pastries. Staff offered a glass of sparkling wine at almost every turn.
The service stood out. When our suite was needed the next day, the hotel offered us a separate room so that we could still check out late.
From our guests

Our team recommends
Our team found it a calm base for Nara Park and the city’s temples, between stays in Kyoto and Osaka.
From our guests
Our guests write most about the service and a thoughtful concierge.
From our guests
Most of our guests stay in a guest room with a king bed or two queens. Some take a Junior Suite.
Our team recommends
For more room, book an Executive Suite. Ours had a separate living and dining area, a walk-in closet and a corner bedroom looking over the city.
The Junior Suites are one large room with a sitting area, in two styles, the calm Nara and the bolder Griffin. Every suite includes the Executive Lounge, for breakfast, afternoon tea and evening drinks. For a family, request the Executive Suite with two beds instead of a king, keeping the same living room.
From our guests
What a wonderful experience it has been … The service is over the top … and very nice.
Staff very helpful. Concierge thoughtful.
