Prince Collection’s notes

Our team recommends

The resort is a few minutes’ walk from the beach on one side and sits on the Nerang River on the other. The centre of Surfers Paradise is about 10 minutes by car, and Gold Coast Airport about 45.

We stayed in an Executive Suite high in the tower, with a living room, a separate bedroom and two balconies, one facing the sunrise over the ocean and one over the pools. The deep tub in the bathroom looks out over the hills.

Breakfast at Citrique was among the better buffets we’ve had at a luxury hotel, with Asian and Western dishes, a gluten-free section and eggs cooked to order. The spanner crab omelette was outstanding.

The pools are the heart of the place: a saltwater lagoon with waterfalls, grottos and tropical fish, and a freshwater pool with a slide. Bring a snorkel or hire one at the pool, and come down for the daily fish feeding.

Behind the pools are the JW Garden, where the chefs grow herbs and keep bees, and a private marina on the river for kayaking and boat trips. Service from check-in to check-out was refined and genuine, with thoughtful touches throughout.

Who it suits

Our team recommends

Our team found it a fine place to rest after a long flight, and right for a couple’s escape or a family holiday.

From our guests

Our guests write most about the room, the beds, the breakfast and snorkelling with the fish in the lagoon.

Families stay here too, in ocean-view rooms with two double beds.

Which room to ask for

From our guests

Our guests stay in a Hinterland King Room, or in an ocean-view room with two double beds for a family.

Our team recommends

For the ocean and the lagoon below, choose an Ocean King, which has its own balcony. For more space, the Executive Suites on levels 22 to 27 add a separate living room and two balconies.

Even the Junior Suites here have a separate bedroom and living room, with a balcony over the ocean on levels 22 to 28. For a longer stay, we’d choose the Residential Suite, larger again, with a powder room for visitors; the one on level 4 has a large balcony with outdoor seating. Families can add an interconnecting twin room to the Residential, Executive or Presidential Suite.
